It leaps and pounces and shows its teeth.” Everywhere the pair ventures, wild has a distinct smell-fresh or musty, sharp or sweet, tangy or acrid. ![]() As the boy and girl continue on the path passing a spider’s web and shadowy shapes with glowing eyes, wild “creeps and crawls and slithers. It pushes through cracks and crannies and steals back forgotten places.” Wild comes in many guises-some obvious, some not. Here “Wild is tiny and fragile and sweet-baby new. ![]() They follow along the path, leaving the city behind and enter the wild. A single floating leaf seems to lead the way.
